Sheffield Homes

UNISON has 400 members covering 42,000 council houses throughout the city, including sheltered accommodation. Our members include estate officers, tenancy management officers, and anti-social behaviour officers. Our priorities are maintaining current housing standards and protecting pay and conditions.

We have the biggest shop stewards’ committee in the Branch and we are very active. We are looking for members to become learning reps and pensions champions so please don’t hesitate to get in touch and help us secure the future for Sheffield Homes.

ACAS to assist with unaddressed TU concerns (27/07/11)

UNISON  are due to meet ACAS, along with our other TU colleagues from UNITE and the GMB, on the 19th September in an effort to resolve a number of issues which management have failed to address through the normal processes.

The issues are:-

  • A number of discrepencies with the disciplinary and grievance
procedures that have come to light as a result of recent cases
  • The procurement of consultants from external providers

After this initial pre-meet we will then sit down with management and ACAS on the 28th September in an attempt to resolve these issues in a satisfactory manner that brings about fairness and equality for all employees.

We will keep you posted on developments and will make you aware of any successful outcome when that hopefully happens.

Staff can decide how they get recompensed for additional hours (27/07/11)

It has come to light that staff who are currently working over and above their contracted hours when asked to do so are unaware that they can either claim an overtime payment or alternatively request time off in lieu if they are on SCP29 or below. The choice is the individuals not the person who is requesting you to work additional hours.

Super Flexi (23/06/11)

UNISON is currently working on your behalf to negotiate the introduction of the above policy. At present we have received a number of favourable responses from staff who would like to see the introduction of this company wide.
Unison does not wish to hold anything up that benefit’s our member’s, however we do have some reservations about the scheme and would not wish the policy to be of detriment to our members. We will therefore keep negotiating until such time as we arrive at a point at which we believe the scheme is acceptable.

The main concern that we have with the policy is the hours that you will be allowed to work – at present if you are asked to work before 8.00am and after 6.00pm and are on SCP 29 or below you have the choice to either take this as either an over time payment, at time and a half, or alternatively opt to take the hours back as time off in lieu. It is important to stress that it is your choice not managements as to which option you decide upon.
During the recent consultations that were held, UNISON were astounded to hear that staff were not aware of this – staff were accruing hours that were becoming increasingly difficult to take and were being carried over and over to each month.

Whilst it is not UNISON’s position to block anything that would a benefit, we would be failing in our duty to the membership if we weren’t to give you the relevant information that would enable you to make an informed decision when asked to vote whether this is an acceptable change to your terms and conditions.

We are also currently working on the policy to ensure that it is fair to all, given the various jobs and restrictions to flexi that already exist in Sheffield homes.

A ballot will be held when we believe that we have reached a position that you can vote on. Our aim is to keep you updated through this website and newsletters
